Terms of Service

Last updated: 10 September 2026 · Application: MySwara

These Terms govern use of MySwara, the invite-only music teaching portal (any instrument or style) operated by Sound of Carnatic (“we”, “us”). By signing in, joining the waitlist, or using MySwara, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

1. The service

MySwara is a web application for invited music teachers (gurus) and students (sishyas) — any instrument or style — to share curriculum and special-practice materials, assign and complete practice to-dos, practice and submit work, track progress (including “Needs practice” follow-ups), organise students into groups, log lessons, and (where applicable) manage a paid subscription. Access is invite-only; there is no public self-registration. Prospective teachers may request access via our waitlist.

2. Accounts and eligibility

  • You must use the email address you were invited with (or as linked via Clerk).
  • Waitlist requests do not guarantee access. We decide whether and when to issue an invite.
  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for activity under your account.
  • Roles (admin, guru, sishya) control what you can see and do. Do not attempt to bypass invite, role, or unlock restrictions.
  • If you invite someone, you confirm you are allowed to share their email with us for that invitation.
  • Teachers may set a portal display name for a linked student. That name is for teaching use inside MySwara and does not change the student’s sign-in identity with Clerk.

3. Subscriptions and billing (Stripe)

Guru and sishya plans may require an active Stripe subscription (or trial) to use MySwara, unless we mark an account billing-exempt or the account is an administrator.

  • Checkout, payment methods, invoices, tax (where enabled), trials, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Stripe. Card data is processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers.
  • New subscriptions may include a free trial before recurring billing starts (duration as shown at Checkout / configured on our Stripe products).
  • You can manage or cancel through Stripe Customer Portal (linked from MySwara where available) or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future renewals according to Stripe’s billing cycle; it does not automatically delete your MySwara account or learning data.
  • Prices, currency, and taxes are those presented in Stripe Checkout. Failed payments may result in loss of access until billing is restored.
  • Lesson ledger amounts (price / paid–unpaid on Lessons) are teaching records between guru and sishya. They are not MySwara platform subscription charges.

Stripe’s terms also apply to payment processing: stripe.com/legal.

4. Content and intellectual property

  • Teachers own or are responsible for materials they upload or create in their library (audio, video, notes, text). By uploading, you grant us a license to host, display, and transmit that content as needed to run MySwara for you and your linked students.
  • The admin curriculum and special-practice library template is a starting structure for new teachers only. Template edits do not automatically rewrite existing teachers’ private copies. Each teacher’s library content remains separate.
  • Students’ submissions are shared with linked teachers for review. Do not upload content you do not have rights to use.
  • MySwara branding, software, and Sound of Carnatic materials remain our property (or our licensors’). “Sound of Carnatic” is the operator; MySwara itself is a general music teaching portal and is not limited to one tradition or style.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Abuse, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the service in unauthorized ways
  • Upload malware, illegal content, or material that violates others’ rights
  • Harass users or misuse student/teacher data outside teaching purposes (including group membership and progress information)
  • Share account access in a way that circumvents invites or billing

Optional Telegram lesson logging is a convenience channel only; the authoritative lesson record is stored in MySwara. Do not send sensitive data via Telegram that you would not put in a normal lesson note.

6. Availability and changes

We aim for reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Features may change as we improve MySwara. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that pose a security or legal risk.

7. Disclaimers

MySwara is provided “as is” for educational use. We do not warrant that practice outcomes, grades, or lesson logs will meet any particular pedagogical result. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you cannot waive under mandatory consumer law.

8. Privacy

How we handle personal data — including authentication, hosting, payments, optional Telegram lesson logging, transactional email, and aggregate website analytics — is described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory local consumer protections apply.

10. Contact
